As part of the SLHS and its capacity building goals, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), Department of Business Economics, Health and Social Care (DEASS) in Manno, is opening two fulltime positions for Phd Students in Health Policy and System Research, with start date May 1st, 2017 or by arrangement.

The Swiss Learning Health System (SLHS) is a collaborative project between seven academic partner institutions (Universities of Basel, Lucerne, Lugano, Neuchatel and Zurich, University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland and Zurich University of Applied Sciences) to establish a national platform for health systems and services research, policy and practice.

The goal of the SLHS is to foster the dialogue between different stakeholders with the aim of developing and continuously integrating research-based solutions to current and future challenges in the health care system.

Description

Possible areas of research include:

  • premium subsidies and other support mechanisms to low- income households in the statutory health insurance

  • advanced roles of non-medical health professions in new care settings

  • nursingsciences

  • policies and tool to improve integration and collaboration in the nursing home sector

  • the impact of shifting from inpatient to outpatient care in the hospital sector

  • role and perspective of the voluntary health insurance

    Duties
  • Health policy and health services research
  • Contribution to the SLHS activities, in particular the development of policy briefs and the preparation of stakeholder dialogues
  • Scientic publications
  • Support in teaching and administration
  • Supervision of bachelor students

Requirements

  • Master’s degree either in Economics, Political Science, Public Health Sciences or Nursing Science
  • Good quantitative skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and, at least, in one of the Swiss national languages (Italian, German, or French)
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research and in teamwork

We offer

The successful applicants will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Lucerne or at another of the Universities participating to the SLHS programme. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to enroll in one of the PhD programmes o ered by the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+).
