Ribosome Assembly, Transport and Quality Control

The ribosome is responsible for the final step of decoding genetic information into proteins. While the structure of the ribosome is giving unprecedented insights into the mechanism of translation, our knowledge regarding its assembly, quality control and transport is emerging. Formation of the eukaryotic ribosome is a highly dynamic process extending across different cellular areas: the nucleolus, the nucleoplasm and the cytoplasm, and requires >300 conserved assembly factors that catalyze yet unknown maturation steps. We aim to understand how these diverse factors spatially and temporally co-operate to assemble, check and transport a functional ribosome.

Description

We apply quantitative mass spectrometry, single particle cryo-electron microscopy, biochemical and functional approaches to investigate different aspects of eukaryotic ribosome assembly (Pena et al., 2016 eLife; Greber et al., 2016 Cell; Fischer et al., 2015 eLife; Schütz et al., 2014 eLife).

Requirements

We are seeking motivated colleagues with a strong interest in employing biochemical approaches towards dissecting fundamental biological problems. Prior experience with budding yeast and/or biochemistry will be an advantage.

We offer

We offer an enthusiastic, interactive and international environment.
