Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW is one of Switzerland’s largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, with over 12,000 students and 3,000 faculty and staff.

The School of Health Professions is the largest and most well-known centre for training and continuing education in various health professions, such as occupational therapy, midwifery, nursing and physiotherapy, as well as for research in these fields.

The Institute of Occupational Therapy is the competence centre for training and research in occupational therapy in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. The Occupational Therapy Research Unit focuses on occupation and its limitations. Our research group is involved in various projects with other universities, both in Switzerland and abroad, as well as with partners from practice. Cooperation with other Schools at the ZHAW enables us to link the unique nature of the occupational therapy perspective with other fields, such as economics, linguistics or technology. The Occupational Therapy Research Unit currently has four main focus areas: new technologies, therapeutic approaches and models; evaluation and intervention; the experience of clients, and the inclusion of people with disabilities.

We are seeking a

Head of Research & Development in Occupational Therapy (80 – 100 %)


to start on 1 March 2018 or by agreement.

Description

As a member of the Institute management, you will be responsible for the following: - Heading and further developing the research centre, including responsibility for staff and finances - Acquisition of research assignments with third-party funding - Initiating and leading research projects at a national and international level - Dissemination of research results in specialist journals, as well as presentations at national and international conferences - Supervising BSc and/or MSc theses and doctoral work - Teaching activity (BSc, MSc and/or continuing education).

Requirements

For this demanding position, we require a university qualification (PhD/dissertation) and training in Occupational Therapy. You are also required to have demonstrated knowledge and experience in applied research, funding and in teaching. You have acquired third-party funds for research and development projects and you are familiar with the Swiss health and care systems. Furthermore, you have an excellent knowledge of both German and English, which you are happy to apply effectively, including in scientific publications. In your capacity as manager, you will promote your employees, think in an entrepreneurial manner and address challenges in leading research in a solution-oriented fashion. You are a good, convincing communicator and you have intercultural competence and great commitment.
