Assistant Professor for Biochemistry with Tenure Track to a position of Full Prof. (Extraordinariat)

The Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (IBMM) of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern is accepting applications for a faculty position at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor. On the basis of a positive evaluation after a period of maximum 5 years, the candidate will be granted a tenured full Professor position (Extraordinariat) at the IBMM.

The IBMM focuses on the structure, function, and pharmacology of membrane proteins such as transporters, ion channels, and membrane receptors. A strong emphasis is put on the roles of these membrane proteins in human disease. Accordingly, we are seeking a scientist interested in the structure and function of membrane transporters and ion channels. The successful candidate will also be associated to the NCCR TransCure, an interdisciplinary research, and education network funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (see ?url=www.nccr-transcure.ch&module=jobs&id=38893" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=www.nccr-transcure.ch&module=jobs&id=38893" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">www.nccr-transcure.ch).

Requirements

For this position, we are looking for highly-motivated individuals who enjoy working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary setting. A PhD in biochemistry, structural biology, chemistry, physics or a related field is desired, MDs with an equivalent education will be considered. A track record in structural and/or functional studies of membrane transport proteins is expected. The successful candidate will gradually participate in teaching activities for students in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and Pharmacy. For teaching, fluency in German (after a 2-year transition phase) and English is expected.
