Position

Join our team of applied scientists monitoring key air quality trace gases from satellites and help to develop new atmospheric composition products from spectrometer data.

Bringing together the resources of 30 member states, EUMETSAT observes the atmosphere, ocean, and land surfaces from space using a system of satellites 365 days a year. Our data is vital for weather forecasts that help to protect lives and property, as well as monitoring the environment and our changing climate. Within our Remote Sensing and Products Division we have an Atmospheric Composition Competence Area which leads the scientific development, prototyping, validation and monitoring of atmospheric products from satellites.

Description

We are recruiting for two scientists with an advanced knowledge of optical remote sensing techniques for trace gases to enhance the way we monitor the earth’s atmosphere. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their experience in the use of radiative transfer models and have previously developed software that involved an interaction with user communities. This is an exciting opportunity to define the requirements for future products and services from two of our missions, whilst supporting the way we re-process and calibrate data to analyse our climate. You will have experience in retrieving trace gases and other atmospheric composition products and the supporting scientific applications to drive forward innovation for future missions whilst enhancing our existing services.

Requirements

You must be a team player, with the ability to collaborate with your colleagues and our international partners. You must have strong analytical skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to our user communities. In this role, you will be able to demonstrate your exceptional organisational skills in a fast-paced operational environment.
