There is little knowledge about the state and dynamics of pesticide residues in agricultural soils. Only very few soil investigations have been conducted so far in Switzerland. In order to detect possible accumulation of pesticide compounds and their degradation products under real field conditions the Swiss Soil Monitoring group (NABO) aims at establishing a suitable monitoring design in the mid-term. The main objective is the protection of soil quality. In this context, biophysical soil models are suitable to interpret measured pesticide residues in soil, to model predictions and derive suitable measures for sustainable soil management.

Your Mission

  • Application of suitable biophysical soil models to investigate the degradation and persistence of pesticide residues in soils.
  • Analysis and interpretation of long-term pesticide application patterns and pesticide residues in soil.
  • Derivation of suitable indicators for environmental reporting, publication of research results in international peer reviewed and national journals
  • Acquisition of third-party funding, and management of customer oriented research projects.
  • -Coordination and collaboration with external and Agroscope-internal research groups

  • PhD in environmental science, natural sciences or agronomy as well as profound proficiency in soil science and application of biophysical soil models.
  • Interest in applied research in soil science
  • Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and in supervising MSc or PhD students
