The interdisciplinary group of the ZHAW Institute for Sustainable Development (INE) identifies future-oriented topics, estimates the development of technologies and their acceptance as well as their potential for dissemination and impact. It conducts sustainability assessments, identifies the needs and behavior of individuals and develops design principles and strategies for sustainable energy regions and innovative business models.

To complement our existing team working on «Transitions of Regional Energy Systems» within the framework of SCCER CREST, we are looking for a

Research Associate (80%) System Dynamics


The position is provisionally until 31.12.2020 limited.

The position is part of the SCCER CREST, the Swiss Competence Centre for Energy Research, which is co-financed by the Swiss Confederation. The SCCER CREST works on economic, social and legal aspects of the energy transition in pioneering research and develops recommendations for politics and industry. Besides the ZHAW, the CREST research consortium also includes the University of Basel, the ETHZ, the EPFL and the Universities of Geneva, Lucerne, Neuchâtel and St. Gallen.

Description

  • collaboration in interdisciplinary, (inter)national research projects and project proposals within the framework of the SCCER CREST task "Transitions of Regional Energy Systems", which is led by the INE
  • development of and analysis with system dynamic models for transitions of regional energy systems (TREES)
  • acquisition of third-party funded research and consulting projects and management of research projects (research associate)
  • participation in the interuniversity coordination and representation of the INE in the SCCER CREST
  • fostering relationships with other researchers (national and international)
  • contribution to scientific publications

Requirements

You hold a degree preferably with a PhD in "System Dynamics", "Energy, Science and Technology", "Energy Economics" or a related field of study. Professional experience in the energy sector (private sector, public sector etc.), preferably in the Swiss context, good networking in the Swiss energy sector, an interest in the subject of sustainable energy systems as well as an understanding of energy-technical relationships are highly appreciated additional qualifications.

The ability to apply system dynamics modelling and socio-economic theories in practice-oriented energy projects is crucial. You have a flair for result-oriented, scientific work (research activities, scientific analyses, writing reports and presenting results) and you are fluent in German or English.
