Since 2015, the Institute for Applied Information Technology – InIT is hosting the Service Prototyping Lab – SPLab (?url=https%3A%2F%2Fblog.zhaw.ch%2Ficclab%2Fcategory%2Flabs%2Fsplab&module=jobs&id=40544" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://blog.zhaw.ch/icclab/category/labs/splab), a research lab dedicated to advance the state of the art in online service creation and migrating software applications to novel cloud and post-cloud platforms.

We are seeking applications of highly motivated candidates to complement the team of the SPLab as a

Research Assistant in Service Tooling (80%)

with the anticipated option to conduct a cooperative doctorate over the course of 3 years.

Your Mission

Possible research and innovation fields in this long-term research initiative include:

  • Tooling for cloud and post-cloud environments, including serverless computing
  • Assessment of digital ecosystems around software artefact repositories
  • Novel approaches for API definition, accounting and management
  • Multi-cloud tooling and testbeds

Areas of responsibility will include:

  • Contributing to the research and development activities in the above fields
  • Execution of work packages of R&D projects (Switzerland and EU)
  • Assistance to transfer of research results to enterprise contexts / SMEs
  • Advice to students in projects and BSc/MSc theses including practical exercises
  • Publication of results in journals and at conferences

Requirements

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in computer science or a related field. The successful candidate has a strong theoretical knowledge and a passion for scientific work in the above-mentioned fields and a good command as well as a passion for programming and writing. Good communication skills in English are a prerequisite, German is a plus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the academic, industry, and technology landscape, identify unsolved problems and propose novel ideas for future activities. Particular emphasis is given to developing prototypes, experimenting hands-on with systems, and scientific evaluation and documentation of results.
