EPFL-TOPO (Geodetic Engineering Laboratory) is committed to foster the foundation and development of tools and novel concepts for navigation and sensor fusion into the operational environment of light-weight drones of different shapes to enhance substantially their real-time estimate of trajectory as well as navigation integrity in areas with sporadic or no satellite positioning. We also aim at integrating a novel paradigm of mutli-sensor fusion in high-resolution mapping, solving the current limitations of orientating scanners and/or line sensors over surfaces lacking heterogeneous texture.

We are currently looking for a post-doctoral researcher to join our group as soon as possible.

Description

  • Contribution to the research effort of the group involving regular interaction with PhD and MSc students, as well as external partners (from industry).
  • Partial responsibility in realization of current research projects and acquisition of new ones.
  • Some participation in teaching is also expected.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Geomatics, Aeronautics, Electrical Engineering or a similar area.
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Working knowledge of French or a strong desire to acquire it quickly.
  • Mathematic background in sensor fusion and estimation methods.
  • Hands-on experience in robotics and navigation techniques.
  • Good knowledge in languages and tools as C, C++, Matlab, ROS.

We offer

  • A fascinating research topic in sensor fusions for new generation of lightweight and autonomous mapping platforms, funding of which is already secured for several years.
  • Access to state-of-the-art navigation, mapping sensors and in-house developed mapping platforms.
  • Special infrastructure for simulation and sensor calibration.
  • A modern working environment in a young, dynamic and international team.
  • Experience in industry oriented projects.
