Postdoc position in Liver Immunology

A Postdoc position is available in the Liver Immunology research group at the Department of Biomedicine of the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. The Liver Immunology research group is a young team working in close collaborations with clinicians and scientists at the University Hospitals in Basel, Liestal and Bern.

Study subject
Most liver diseases are characterized by an inflammatory response in the liver, leading to progressive fibrosis that can result in liver cirrhosis, loss of liver function or development of hepatocellular carcinoma. We are investigating the role of MR1-restricted T cells in the pathophysiology of liver diseases. Our interest is the interplay between the gut and the liver, referred to as the immunological gut-liver axis.

The study is embedded within the program of translational research bridging basic immunology and clinical science. Immunology is a focus area of the University of Basel, which is fostering interactions between member laboratories belonging to theUBICO (University of Basel Immunology Community).

Your assignment
The selected candidate will investigate immune cells present in the human liver and gut and will apply various cellular and molecular approaches in order to find diseasespecific changes and identify potential drivers of liver fibrogenesis. The goal of the study is to increase the knowledge onthepathophysiology of liver diseases and to elucidate novel targets for potential therapies.

Your profile
PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine or biotechnology. Background in immunology, multicolor flow cytometry, cell biology and biochemistry is required. Substantial knowledge in bioinformatics would be of advantage. The position requires teamwork ability, good communication skills and enthusiasm.

Postdoctoral position for 2 years (with a possibility of extension). The salary is set according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation. The starting date is negotiable.
