Your Mission

Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.

The position is part of a project funded by the Swiss Federal Office for The Environment ( FOEN ) entitled "In-depth analysis of pesticide monitoring data sets (Vertiefte Analyse bestehender PSM-Monitoring Datensätze NAWA-Flowpath)". The project aims at inferring information about pesticide sources and transport pathways in small agricultural catchments by combining comprehensive pesticide monitoring data with rainfall, discharge and land use data. The results from the project will inform the authorities about the relevance of source-flow path combinations for pesticides that should be addressed in future by the National Pesticide Action Plan.

The interdisciplinary project is led by Dr. Christian Stamm (Uchem) in close collaboration with Heinz Singer (Uchem) the partners of the VSA Platform Water Quality (Tobias Doppler, Anne Dietzel). The starting date is 1 November 2019 and the project duration will be 2 years.

We are looking for excellent candidates with a solid background in hydrology, solute transport at the catchment scale and water quality research. The candidates like to deal with rich and complex data sets, appreciate to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and are interested in contributing to science-based support for practice. Experiences with diffuse pollution from agricultural sources is an asset. Knowledge of German or French are an advantage but not necessary.
