Assistant Professor in English Studies (m/f)

Description

The Assistant Professor will be a member of the Institute of English Studies within the research unit IPSE. S/he will ideally conduct research in three of the following areas: - Early Modern English Literature and Culture 1500-1800 - Drama and Performance in Literary History and Theory - Shakespeare and His Contemporaries - Digital Humanities / Digital Teaching and Learning The Assistant Professor will also participate in interdisciplinary research projects and the research network ‘Migration and Intercultural Studies (MIS)’ and the Institute for History in the areas of Early Modern Culture and Digital Humanities. Within this framework, they will be expected to work on: - Literature in Intercultural Contexts - Literature and Migration

The Assistant Professor’s teaching obligations are in the Bachelor en Cultures Européennes – English Studies . S/he will complement and diversify the current course offer in the field of Literary Studies. S/he will teach courses covering 16th-18th century literature and culture (including Shakespeare Studies) and accompany students through project-design and the composition process. S/he will contribute to the programme’s advisory system (“Tutorat”).

S/he will be required to teach courses at all levels of the Bachelor programme (foundational, core, and elective). S/he will be required to take on tutoring, advising and supervision responsibilities within the context of a large cohort in the Bachelor programme; and will be actively involved in the conceptualisation and development of a drama track within the BCE: English Studies. The Assistant Professor will design and implement a series of lectures within the European Cultures minor of the programme. Moreover, the Assistant Professor will contribute to the Doctoral School and will be expected to attract and supervise PhD candidates. In the long term, s/he will contribute to the potential development of the English track of the Master in Secondary Education.

Requirements

  • PhD in literature, preferably Early Modern English Literature
  • At least three years of PostDoc experience in the field of English Literature
  • An excellent publication record
  • Experience in teaching at Bachelor and Master level, including composition and project design
  • Ability to work in a multilingual environment
  • A strong commitment to interdisciplinarity in teaching and research

Languages

The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and in one of the two official languages of Luxembourg: French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other official language and provides access to language courses to this end.
