A predoc or postdoc position is currently available in the atom/molecule manipulation group . The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Leo Gross .

Project description

On-surface synthesis by atom manipulation
The objectives are the characterization of single molecules and molecular mixtures on surfaces by atomic force microscopy and the exploration of novel reactions and methods for the on-surface synthesis by atom manipulation .
Novel molecules and molecular networks will be created and studied by ultra-high resolution STM and AFM. In particular, graphemic open-shell systems with topologically protected states are targeted. Attachment and transfer of single electron charge carriers in the systems created will be studied. The skills to carry out accompanying density functional theory calculations (DFT) and AFM simulations can be acquired in the group.

Requirements

  • Excellent general knowledge in physics and surface science
  • Highly proficiency in both spoken and written English
  • Beneficial but not mandatory for this job is expertise in ultra-high vacuum systems, scanning probe microscopy and density functional theory calculations
