Since 2015 the Service Engineering research group of the Institute for Applied Information Technology – InIT (init.zhaw.ch) is running the Service Prototyping Lab - SPLab (blog.zhaw.ch/icclab/category/labs/splab), a research lab dedicated to advance the state of the art in service prototyping and migrating software to the cloud.

We are seeking applications of highly motivated candidates to complement the team of the SPLab as a

Senior Researcher / Research Associate in Cloud Applications

Description

Research and development fields:
  • Cloud-native application design and development
  • Evaluation of microservice programming and composition models
  • Novel approaches for API definition, accounting and management
  • Formal aspects of application monetisation, delivery and technological Realisation
Areas of responsibility will include:
  • Leading the research and development activities in the above fields
  • Acquisition, direction, and processing of R&D projects (EU and Switzerland)
  • Transfer of research results to enterprise contexts / SMEs
  • Advice to students in projects and BSc/MSc theses including practical exercises
  • Publication of results in journals and at conferences

Requirements

Applicants must have a Master’s, preferably doctoral degree in computer science or a related field. The successful candidate has strong theoretical knowledge and professional experience in the above fields and good command and passion for programming and writing. Good communication skills in English are a prerequisite, German is a plus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the academic, industry, and technology landscape, identify unsolved Problems and propose novel ideas for future activities. Particular emphasis is given to developing prototypes, experimenting hands-on with systems, and scientific evaluation and documentation of results.
